Tan Prep Guide
GET THE GLOW
How to PrepARE for Your Spray Tan
Want that flawless, long-lasting glow? Prepping your skin properly is the secret to a stunning spray tan that wears beautifully. Follow these easy steps to get the best results—every single time!
Exfoliate Like a Pro
The smoother your skin, the better your tan will look and last. Exfoliating removes dry, dead skin cells so your tan can absorb evenly into fresh, clean skin. Use an exfoliating mitt or glove in a warm shower or bath—circular motions work best. You can pair it with a paraben-free, sulphate-free body wash without oils that leave behind residue on the skin.
SHOWERING
For optimal results, it's best to shower around 4 hours prior to your appointment. This timeframe allows your skin to reach its natural pH levels and ensures your pores are properly closed, minimizing the chances of uneven tanning. If you need to shower closer to your appointment, be sure to finish with a cold rinse to effectively close your pores.
OTHER BEAUTY TREATMENTS
Schedule all your other beauty treatments, such as hair colouring, hair wash/treatments, manicures, pedicures, lash services, and brow shaping, prior to your tanning session. If you book these services after tanning, you may risk stripping your tan or causing uneven patches.
The 24-Hour Rule
Shaving or waxing? Make sure you do it at least 24 hours before your tan (Wax Ideally 48). This gives your pores time to close and helps prevent dark spots and uneven colour.
Moisturise Smart
In the days leading up to your tan, moisturise your body focusing on dry areas like elbows, knees, knuckles, and feet. These areas tend to grab more colour, so keeping them soft helps everything blend beautifully, t's also crucial to stay hydrated for optimal results and lasting effects.
Strip It Back
Come to your appointment with clean skin—no makeup, perfume, deodorant, or moisturiser on the day. These can act as barriers and cause patchiness. Don’t worry, you’ll be glowing soon enough!
Dress for Tan Success
Opt for loose, dark clothing at your appointment, think oversized baggy t-shirt and baggy pants. Tight clothing can rub against your fresh tan, causing uneven patches. Avoid tight bras, socks, or leggings immediately after your session. You want to avoid skin on skin contact so completely covered clothing is best. We'll supply a disposable g-string, however, if you'd rather wear your own, choose an old dark pair that you won't mind getting some bronzer on. If you want to avoid tan lines altogether, feel free to go nude. Have long hair? Remember to bring a hair tie to keep it secured and out of the way.
🚫 Important: Avoid products that leave a film on the skin, like DOVE and AVENO Body wash, shampoo and lotion (before and after your tan). They’re known culprits for patchy tan application and for stripping tans.
Anti ageing products also
avoid as these can create Uneven Absorption & Faster Fading Since anti-aging creams encourage exfoliation, any skin that is actively shedding will not hold onto the tan as well. This can result in an uneven or blotchy tan that fades quickly in certain areas.
